How to grow lettuce in your garden in 3 steps.
Step 1 – Site preparation
Choose a sunny location. If sowing later in spring, choose a spot with shade in the afternoon. Dig the ground to make the soil looser. Remove stones, clods, weeds. Level the place. If necessary, you can enrich the soil with garden soil. You can make furrows with a depth of 1 cm. It can also be grown in a greenhouse or in pots on the balcony.
Step 2 – Insert the tape
Place the tape in the furrow or on leveled ground. Cover with a thin layer of soil – no more than 0.5 cm of soil. A thicker layer of soil may result in fewer lettuces sprouting. Water. You can cut as much of the tape as you need. The ideal sowing time is when the temperature is between 7 and 20 degrees. If you’re planting in colder temperatures, you can wrap the area with plastic – it will sprout faster and protect them from frost. Keep humidity high. Lettuces will sprout in 7-14 days.
Step 3 – Care for vegetables
When plants are 5-10 cm tall, thin them to 20-30 cm apart. If you want to transplant those plants you remove from the row, do so carefully and together with more soil around the root. Water regularly, especially during hot, dry periods. The soil should be moist but not rotten. So water often and a little at a time. Remove weeds. Lettuce takes 45-60 days to mature. But you can pick off the outer leaves as much as you will consume. This will stimulate the formation of more leaves.
* No need to spray with insecticides.
